Actually, it’s butter first – then the rest!

-

THOUGH I was born in Cornwall and now live in Devon, I am getting a little tired of people perpetuating the so-called controversy between the Cornish and Devon folk over whether the jam or the cream goes on to the scone first. I think it is a personal choice and has nothing to do with where anyone was born.

In my view, though, it is neither the jam or the cream, as I would never put anything on a ‘dry’ scone without BUTTER first!

As for pasty crimps, side or top, it is whatever the pasty maker finds the easiest to do. Either way, jam or cream first, side or top crimps on pasties, it is all good Westcountry food – so just enjoy it!
