Economic damage of Brexit swamps savings

Channel 4, 8pm

- BY SARA WALLIS

YOUR correspondent Mike Baker repeats the canard that now we no longer contribute to EU coffers, we can “afford” many more NHS and other services. The biggest lie of the Brexit campaign was not the figure on the side of the bus that could be used for the NHS, nor even half that figure for our EU contribution, but that there would be any saving at all. The economic damage of Brexit will swamp the small saving of not having to pay our contribution to the EU budget. Boris Johnson described our contribution as a “piffling sum” before he decided that his leadership ambitions would best be served by leading the Leave campaign.

MJ Radnedge is also wrong in claiming that if we had remained in the EU we could not have obtained supplies of vaccine as early as we did. There was nothing to prevent EU countries ordering their own supplies independently of the EU and some EU countries did so.

It’s only marginally depressing that this lockdown-born show is back for a second series, and yet here we all still are. Back in Lockdown V1, Grayson and Philippa Perry wanted everyone to get creative, sending in artwork to weekly themes.

Thousands responded and Grayson has promised the art will feature in a real exhibition. In the meantime, here is a second chance to get involved.

Musician Boy George joins them this time, creating art inspired by the theme of family.

Grayson also meets photographer David Bailey to talk about his passion for painting and artist Yinka Illori.

There is also a special contribution from Harry Hill, before Grayson and Boy George select the week’s best public art submissions.

How you rate:
