Brexit: blame those who didn’t vote at all

-

I’D like to reply to a recent rant from a letter writer about Brexit, those that voted in the majority to Leave, and its leaders of the campaign, whilst reminding him of the record voter turnout in the referendum.

The slogan on the side of the bus wasn’t a promise, but an example of where the money saved could be directed. Brexit was voted in before Trump’s election as president of the USA, but let’s not forget the dire warnings from the then ‘Democrat’ President Obama, or the ‘Democrat’ candidate Clinton, about what would happen if we should vote Leave. Allegations of bias in several newspapers were made towards Leave, and probably true, but there wasn’t any mention of the bias from several newspapers for Remain, not forgetting the bias shown towards the Remain camp by all the national broadcasting companies, terrestrial or satellite. The voter turnout of the referendum was 34 million – were they all influenced by a falling newspaper readership or poor audience figures for the referendum debates on the TV? Perhaps you should direct your angst at the 26% who couldn’t be bothered to take part. If more had, Remain may have won. Then again, they may have voted Leave and given a larger majority.
