AJURY has been played CCTV of the final sighting of Lorraine Cox as she walked through Exeter city centre with her alleged killer.

Azam Mangori followed the 32-yearold along the High Street before approaching her near the John Lewis store, Exeter Crown Court heard.

It is alleged that after a sexual encounter in an alleyway he lured the 32-year-old back to his flat above a kebab shop and murdered her. He denies the offence.

On the third day of his trial the jury was told that police searched through thousands of hours of city centre CCTV to track the movements of Lorraine and her alleged killer on the evening she disappeared.

Footage was played which showed Lorraine leaving The Arcade pub in Fore Street in the early hours of September 1. She had spent the previous day and evening drinking with friends but by 1.30am was alone and unsure of where to sleep.

CCTV showed her eating a kebab on a bench on Fore Street then heading through Cathedral Green and along the High Street. She told friends via phone messages that she was heading to Beacon Heath, where her father lived.

Mangori could be seen on footage emerging from his flat above the Bodrum Kebab House on Mary Arches Street shortly after 2am. He had spent time earlier that evening trying to contact both male and female escorts.

CCTV showed Mangori, who had never met Lorraine, walking behind her with his hood up along High Street.

DC Darren Webb of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said footage showed Mangori initially walking beyond Lorraine but then turning around and approaching her with his hood down. An audio recording taken by Mangori on his phone reveals they had sex in an alleyway off Sidwell Street.

The prosecution say Mangori took advantage of Lorraine’s drunken condition and then persuaded her to come back to his flat. The pair walked together, linking arms, down High Street and back to the Bodrum Kebab House. They entered through a door at the rear of the property near the bins.

DC Webb said: “Police checked hundreds if not thousands of hours of footage from around the city. We did not see Lorraine Cox alive again.”

It is alleged that once inside the building, Lorraine was murdered by Mangori and that he cut up her body and dumped her remains in bins at the back of the property and in woodland near Newton St Cyres.

The trial continues.
