Lowe has plenty of praise for Ennis

STRIKER Niall Ennis is already showing why Ryan Lowe was so keen to sign him for Plymouth Argyle.

Lowe praised the 21-year-old as being ‘different class’ since he joined the Pilgrims in January.

Ennis scored his third goal in 11 games - six of them starts - in the 2-1 defeat away to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday. Lowe thought the striker put in an outstanding performance against his former club.

However, his efforts were not enough as Argyle suffered a third defeat in their last four League One games.

Lowe said: “I must say Niall was terrific. Wow, he was outstanding. You can put your trust in him anywhere on the pitch.

“He was outstanding in every way - his aggressiveness, his holdup play, his running with the ball, his mentality.

“He has been on another level since he has come in the kid, to be fair to him. I don’t like singling anyone out but he has been different class.”

Ennis has already had far more success with Argyle than he did during a loan spell at Burton Albion from Wolves in the first half of this season.

The striker made six starts and three substitute appearances for the Brewers and did not get any goals.

Ennis was signed by Lowe on a two-and-a-half-year contract from Wolves for an undisclosed fee in January.

Lowe has been rotating Argyle’s strike pairing in recent matches between Ennis, 18-goal top scorer Luke Jephcott and Ryan Hardie..

Ennis came on as a substitute in the 2-0 defeat away to Northampton Town last Tuesday, when Hardie and Jephcott started up front.

Jephcott has now gone seven games without a goal, since netting twice in the 2-2 draw away to Portsmouth on February 6.

He will be aiming to end that run when Argyle play relegationthreatened Wigan Athletic at Home Park tonight.
