Deluge causes landslip after days of rain

-

HEAVY rain across the Westcountry caused problems for drivers yesterday – and the bad weather was blamed for bringing down debris in a landslip at Tavistock.

Low pressure anchored in the Channel, just south of Dorset, was to blame for almost two full days of rain on Wednesday and yesterday.

In parts of the region, particularly over higher ground, almost a half a month’s worth of rain fell in just 24 hours, forecasters said.

Liscombe weather station on Exmoor recorded 50.6 millimetres of rain between 1pm on Wednesday and 5am yesterday. The May average is 85.42mm. The weather is set to get more showery from today.
