Alpaca is put to sleep after attack by dog

-

A FAMILY in North Devon have been left heartbroken after their dearly loved alpaca, Coral, had to be put to sleep, following a savage dog attack.

On April 18, Coral was the victim of a horrific dog attack, leaving her seriously wounded. The dog had managed to break into a private field belonging to the owners of Widmouth Farm Cottages, Ilfracombe.

Guests staying at the cottages witnessed Coral – who was in the field with her three offspring – try to stand her ground against the dog before it sunk its teeth into her.

The police were in contact with the dog owner and a Dog Control

Order (DCO) has been put in place.

The dog responsible for the attack now has to be muzzled every time it is out and, if there are any further attacks on livestock, the dog will have to be destroyed.

The family who own the alpaca are also contacting the dog owners for compensation for vets bills.
