Power outage affects millions

AN equipment failure has caused an outage at a power plant in Taiwan, triggering rolling black-outs across the island that affected millions of people.

The outage in Kaohsiung trapped at least one person in a lift and disrupted a daily briefing being given by government officials on the island’s coronavirus pandemic situation.

Taipower, the government-run electric company, said its black-outs affected 8.46 million households and emergency repairs were under way.
