Boy arrested as pupil taken to hospital with burns

AN alleged assault outside a school has left a teenage girl in hospital with serious burn injuries.

A boy has been arrested after the incident outside Penair School in Truro and detectives are investigat­ing.

Police confirmed that the incident happened at about 3pm last Thursday when the girl was on her way home.

The incident happened outside of school premises and left her with bad burns on her back.

Her injuries, which Devon and Cornwall Police said were not life threatenin­g, led to the victim being taken to hospital.

A 15-year-old boy from Truro has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. The arrested boy was later released on police bail, according to Inspector Colin Wheeler.

Insp Wheeler said: “The girl involved was taken to hospital for treatment and I am advised that, fortunatel­y, her injuries are not considered life threatenin­g.

“A 15-year-old boy from Truro was arrested on suspicion of assault occasionin­g grievous bodily harm. He was later released on police bail.

“We are treating this very seriously and I have been in contact with the school and know they are providing support for those involved and their families.

“CID and local neighbourh­ood officers are working together to progress the investigat­ion and continue engaging with the community, including the students. I ask that if anyone has any informatio­n or evidence about this incident then they please contact the police quoting CR/091883/21.”

The day after the incident, a statement was issued to parents from Penair head teacher James Davidson which advised that any pupils who were witnesses or involved were being supported.
