First snow of the winter predicted for weekend

-

WEATHER forecast charts have predicted when snow will fall across Devon and Cornwall as the region prepares for “gales and light showers”.

Predictions from forecaster WXCHARTS suggest the two counties will see its first signs of snow this winter on Saturday at 9am, with the heaviest hit being parts of Cornwall, including

Bude and Launceston. North and West Devon are also expected to see snow.

By noon most of Cornwall, and a large part of Devon, including Dartmoor, will see light snow showers which will continue through the afternoon until around 9pm, the forecaster warns.

Large parts of Devon, including Plymouth, will also continue to see snow on Sunday 28 starting from 6am with showers likely to last through the morning.

BBC Weather also predicts snow for Dartmoor, driven on strong winds from 9am on Saturday 27. People are being told to expect temperatures that “feel like -5 degrees”. Snow is then expected to turn into ‘gales and sleet’ at around 11am.

The forecast from Friday 26 to Sunday 27 of November predicts an unsettled and chilly day on Friday, with heavy rain, followed by sunshine and blustering showers.

“These will be wintry, even to lower levels at times,” forecasters predict. They go on: “Saturday remains very unsettled with a wintry mix of rain and sleet and gale force winds. Sunday looks to be a more settled day.”

It comes as parts of Devon saw gritter lorries out earlier this week on all of the county’s primary salting routes as the county prepared for sub zero temperatures. Devon is starting the season with its gritting depots fully stocked with 24,000 tonnes of salt.
