Loanees are keen to return

RYAN Broom and Jordon Garrick would both ‘love to come back’ to Plymouth Argyle after their season-long loans in 2021/22, according to Steven Schumacher.

Swansea’s Garrick made 50 appearances, with 25 of them starts, and he scored seven goals.

Broom, who joined from Peterborough United last summer, made 32 starts and 16 substitute appearances and netted four times.

Schumacher admitted he would ‘love to work again’ with all four of the players who ended the season on loan to Argyle.

The other two were Huddersfield Town left-sided defender Romoney Crichlow and Fulham wing-back Steven Sessegnon, who were both signed in January.

Crichlow made just one start and two substitute appearances because of the consistent form of Macaulay Gillesphey while former England under-21 international Sessegnon played 10 games.

Nonetheless, despite their limited involvement, Schumacher though both had contributed a lot to Argyle’s season as they kept up a play-off push all the way until the final fixture, when they dropped out of the top six after a 5-0 drubbing by MK Dons.

Garrick posted a message on Twitter after Argyle’s game against MK Dons which indicated he was open to the idea of returning to the club.

Schumacher was asked whether he would be interested in re-signing any or all of Broom, Crichlow, Garrick and Sessegnon, either permanently or on loan again

He said: “First and foremost, I would love to work with all four of them players again because they were brilliant lads.

“Individually they all fitted into the group. Everybody loved them, they loved being down here and they enjoyed their time.

“Crich obviously didn’t play as many minutes as he wanted to but as an experience for him going forward in his career I think it has been invaluable.

“He has been in and around an environment that he likes and has enjoyed, and he has learned from.

“He probably improved Macaulay’s performances just by being on his tail all the time. He played his part even though he didn’t play any minutes.

“Sess took a bit of time to get going because he wasn’t fit when we signed him but once he did play everyone could see how much quality he has got. In the future, who knows, I would love to work with him again as well.

“And then Broomy and Jordon, who have been here all season, have loved it. They have been part of the group. They didn’t feel like a loan player.

“They felt like our players. Sometimes that’s not easy. Straight away they settled in, they both enjoyed the area, they both would love to come back.

“And, again, I would love to work with them in the future. Whether that’s going to happen immediately, we will have to wait and see.”

Schumacher added that he thought all four loan signings had improved the Argyle squad because they were ‘good footballers’.

“We will have conversations in the next couple of weeks,” added the Pilgrims’ boss. “We have got targets in their positions as well as them.

“If we feel that they are the best names then we will go for it. If we feel as though there is better out there then we will look at that option.”
