Johnson and Blair as bad as each other

-

I RAN out of time to reply to two letters in yesterday’s newspaper.

The first one is easy to deal with, the British people and most especially the Tory party would be insane to bring Boris Johnson back into any position of power.

The other letter by Shaun Shute, with whom I share most views, needs to be answered.

I must point out that Tony Blair, with his propaganda to give a reason for the invasion of Iraq, became in the eyes of many a war criminal and I include myself in that view.

On the campaign trail before he became PM, he emphasised volubly and often that there were just 48 hours to save the NHS. Yet his private finance initiative (PFI) deals with his cronies mainly for rebuilding hospitals and schools. This disastrous policy, according to the National Audit Office report, is still costing the nation £10.3 billion each and every year and that by the 2040s will cost £199 billion to the taxpayers.

He presided over the Cabinet in 1997, 1998 and 1999, which was dominated by Scottish members, who had all signed the Scottish Claim of Right, including Gordon Brown, in which they pledged to put the interests of Scotland above all others. Their Devolution Act which established a Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly at the same time trying to divide England out of existence into regions has now come home to roost, with the SNP always in power in Scotland and the Welsh Assembly always being controlled by Labour but another kind of Labour; think back to the authoritarian rule in the pandemic with measures that wouldn’t shame Putin.

Since his shocking PFI losses have mounted up, we have actually lost nurses, doctors and teachers as the boards try desperately to cover costs.

His closing down the cottage hospitals in what was a rural area was criminal and his open borders policy went from ‘a few thousand’ to millions and changed this country forever. In my opinion, Johnson and Blair both will easily be able to claim their places in that long list of those who have done more harm to this country than good.
