Rockfish named one of best firms to work for

ROCKFISH, the sustainable seafood restaurant business, has been named one of the best companies to work for in the UK.

Ranked number 38 in the UK’s top 100, the business, which has a restaurant at Sutton Harbour in Plymouth, was also named the tenth best company to work for in the South West, and eighth in hospitality.

The workforce completed anonymous surveys for employee engagement specialist Best Companies during the past few years, and Rockfish said it had worked hard to implement honest and invaluable feedback from the people who work at its restaurants in order to make changes, learn, and shape the company into what it is today.

Rockfish said it has created a community where all staff can enjoy their work and where each team member can enjoy a sense of belonging, and a sense of dedication to Rockfish’s goal to be a business that cares for the environment and those around them.

The company, which also restaurants in Exeter, Exmouth, Torquay, Brixham and Dartmouth, is especially proud of its achievements in light of the industry it finds itself in, which has faced important challenges postpandemic and where no two days are the same.

Mitch Tonks, founder and chief executive, said: “This is probably the biggest achievement in the history of Rockfish and really highlights just how good the energy of the people at Rockfish is. Together, they are leading the way in creating a brilliant workplace for today’s world. I want to thank all of them for everything that they do, every day, which has led to this recognition.”

The Rockfish team is now focused on future growth, with sites secured in Salcombe, Sidmouth and Topsham and a number of other locations under consideration. Rockfish was ranked in Best Companies’ table for private and not-for-profit organisations in the “large” category, with between 200 and 1,999 full-time employees. Accredited organisations have the chance to appear in up to four quarterly lists of the Best Companies to Work For.

Top of the list in the “large” section was Hickory’s Smokehouse, but there were several companies with operations in Plymouth also in that list, and in the “big” companies table, for organisations with more than 2,000 full-time employees. Also included were:
