Rendells report on November 2 a good entry of cattle met keen demand with forward, stronger cattle attracting a sharper trade. Top price of the day was for a single 24m South Devon steer from Mr RH Kerswell, Kingsbridg­e. Closely following were a bunch of three well fleshed 21m South Devon steers from the same home selling to £1250. Mr P Vooght, Newton Abbot sold the best of his run to £1220 for a 27m South Devon steer with younger South Devon steers selling to £1170, £1160 and £1100. Quality South Devon steers from Mr FK Martin, Postbridge sold to £1190 for 17m animals with a 14m steer selling to £1070. Cull cows sold to 142ppk for a 785kg South Devon cow from Mr RH Kerswell. The entry of sheep forward met a fast trade with quality selling well. Top of the day was £107 for 50.20kg lambs from the dispersal of lambs from Messrs I K & D Tucker, Kingsbridg­e. Other similar weighted lambs from the same home selling to £106 (twice) and £104. The best lambs from MJ & JM Evans of Dunsford sold to £100. Best per kilo was 216p for Messrs I K & D Tucker with Messrs MJ & JM Evans’ lambs selling to 215p and with RB Quantick, Newton Abbot selling lambs to 213p. Overall average SQQ of 204.25 resulting in many non Farm Assured lambs and some needing more finishing. Store lambs sold to £50 for a pen from Ms K Langabeer, Ipplepen.

Kivells report on November 3 an entry of 250 store cattle which saw a high of £1600. This was for Mark Williams of St Kew, who topped out at £1600 with a monster of a Limousin cross steer, long but well fleshed and shaped. R & S Moore of Merton next with a threequart­er Limousin steer with great shape and length and a little spark to £1305 and another trio at £1250. W E Uglow of Trelash next with a super run of British Blue and Charolais crosses, his top a pen of six British Blues at 23m to £1285. D W & R P Dingle of Ruan High Lanes next with 26m British Blue steers to £1275 and three more at the same age to £1255. Mark Williams had two Charolais cross steers to £1200. W E Uglow topped the heifer section with a pen of six Charolais crosses, deep bodied and well fleshed to £1365 and a trio at £1345, with his six British Blue crosses to £1290. Linnick Farm Partnershi­p of South Petherwin next with a super sweet Hereford cross away at £1090. CW & AM Hocking of St Tudy next with a superb Aberdeen Angus, not long legged but deep bodied and well fleshed to £1045. Best Friesians from Mark Williams with a pair of 25m steers to £1140. Heavy cows topped out at £1200 for a Charolais from P D Mitchell of Jaysland, while grazing cows from J G A Raymont St Merryn sold to £1000 for a 190m Simmental cross. In-calf cows topped out at £1190 for Mrs Fitzgerald of North Hill with a pure Aberdeen Angus, seven weeks in-calf. A smaller yarding of stirks penned today saw a selected trade topping at £520 for a British Blue cross steer in from K & L Care up from St Ewe, who sold others to £470. Heifers from the same holding to £480. Younger weaned calves sold to £390 for T Bloye of Callington for Hereford steers (5-6m), with other Hereford steers to £380 (5m). Saler cross steers from the same farm to £350 (6m). An entry of 150 stirks on the books for tomorrow. A smaller entry of 214 draft ewes and a flying trade, up around £10-£12 on the week. The overall average of £76.25 was the highest average for the week so far in the South West, including hill bred ewes. Top on the day was £180 for a Charollais from John Edwards of Barnstaple. Texel cross ewes to £123 from Messrs L R Burden of Egloskerry.

Mules to £116 and hill ewes to £91. Grazing ewes from £65 to £80. Ewes wanted please. Contact Steve Prouse on 07767 895366. A similar entry of 247 fat lambs and a much faster trade and a lot more could have been sold. Overall average on the day was 238.1, up around £5-£6 a head. Pen after pen over 240p to a top of 252p for three pens of 42kgs £106 from Mr C Kent of Liskeard, with four other vendors realising 250p. Ten pens realised £110 and over to a top of £113 from two vendors, Tracey Cobbledick of Swelle Farm, Poundstock and Bill and Richard Pethick of Trevalga, Boscastle. A good entry of 686 store lambs and a much faster trade and more were needed as several prospectiv­e buyers went home empty handed. Top being £93 from George Williams of St Kew, followed by Ricky Tremain of Tintagel who saw his first pen of shorn lambs reach £90. Steve Lyne of Cardinham topped the wool lambs at £89. A steady trade for the 38 rams topped out at £340 for a Charollais 2T from Tony England, followed by £280 for a Charollais 2T from John Hicks of St Merryn.

A single Texel ewe made £144 for Paul Bowden of Drewsteign­ton. Not far behind at £138 was G Dennis of Churchinfo­rd, Taunton. A pair of the best Suffolk cross ewes sold to £132, consigned by Rob Shilston and Gemma Houghton of Bovey Tracey as well as R J Reddaway & Sons of Moretonham­pstead with cross bred ewes to £125 and £100. A pen of NC Mules rose to £109 for Milborne Wick Farms, Sherbourne and heavy ewes regularly traded over £100. Grazing sorts remain in demand with buyers willing to pay £65 -75 for strong and healthy ewes. Few hill ewes on offer and mainly plainer sorts which were £30+. Dorset rams climbed to £158 and £148 for two pens from TG Mortimer of Powderham.
