Argyle youngsters will try again in Youth Cup

-

PLYMOUTH Argyle have their rearranged FA Youth Cup first round tie against Cheltenham Town at Home Park tomight (7pm kick-off) writes Chris Errington.

The match was originally due to be played last Wednesday but was abandoned after just few minutes due to torrential rain making the pitch unplayable.

Four members of Argyle’s 20-strong squad from the FA Cup first round tie away to Grimsby Town on Saturday, which ended in a shock 5-1 defeat for the League One leaders, are set to play against Cheltenham.

One of them is midfielder Will Jenkins-Davies, who celebrated his 18th birthday last month and made his first non-Papa Johns Trophy start for Argyle at Grimsby.

Caleb Roberts, who was 17 on October 24, came off the bench in the 79th minute of the FA Cup tie at Blundell Park as he made his third senior appearance for the Pilgrims, while defender Oscar Halls and striker Freddie Issaka were unused substitutes.

Darren Way’s Argyle under-18s are second in the EFL Youth Alliance South West Division with 16 points from seven games.

They have a record of five wins, one draw and one defeat, which leaves them six points behind league leaders AFC Bournemouth, who have played two more matches than them.

Cheltenham are sixth in the 10-team South West Division with a record of two wins, two draws and four defeats.

Argyle won 4-2 away to Cheltenham in their first match of their Youth Alliance campaign in August, when Jenkins-Davies got two of their goals while Joe Hatch and Cole Gibbings were also on target.

Wales under-17 international Hatch has been having a successful season and scored for the young Pilgrims in an impressive 1-0 victory over Swansea City at Millennium Fields in Plymouth on Saturday.

That result meant previously unbeaten Swansea missed out on qualification for the quarter-finals of the Professional Development League Cup.

Whoever wins out of Argyle and Cheltenham tomorrow will be away to Gillingham in the second round after they beat Corinthian Casuals 4-1.

Blocks 9-12 of the Lyndhurst Stand will be open tomorrow. Adult tickets are £5 while season ticket holders can watch the game for just £3.

Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Home Park Ticket office during opening hours, calling 01752 907700 during opening hours, or online at argyletickets.com at any time.
