Help, there’s too much water

-

ANOTHER vehicle has fallen victim to Aveton Gifford’s tidal road, near Kingsbridge in Devon.

A South West Water van has been pictured trapped on the regularly flooded road on the Avon estuary.

It not uncommon for local residents to come across unsuspecting drivers who have ventured through the water – and found it deeper than they thought.

Also, it is not the first time a South West Water van has become stuck on the road with the water rising up around its windows.

Much of the road, linking Aveton

Gifford with Bigbury, is covered by the tide twice a day – taking unsuspecting drivers with it.

John Ashton, a local wildlife artist, said he walks down the tidal road most days and seeing a stuck vehicle is not a rare occurrence.

“Sometimes we’ve had three of them stuck there,” he explained, adding that people just follow the road on their sat nav, without knowing the nature of the route.

“There is a sewage works close to the tidal pathway and SWW staff can get caught out if they park in the wrong place,” he said.
