Pedestrian badly hurt in bus crash

-

A PEDESTRIAN suffered serious injuries following a collision with a bus on Queen Street, Exeter, yesterday afternoon.

Devon and Cornwall Police and the ambulance service were called to the scene shortly after 1pm following reports of a crash involving a bus and a pedestrian.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were also called.

Queen Street was closed in both directions from High Street to Upper Paul Street, to allow emergency services to treat the pedestrian and conduct investigations.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: “One person has sustained serious injuries and emergency services remain at the scene at this time.”

Eyewitnesses said there was a heavy police presence in Exeter city centre but traffic continued to flow smoothly.

Pedestrians were asked to take a diversion through nearby

Gandy Street.

One eyewitness said: “It doesn’t seem to be causing any traffic disruption as it’s mostly only buses that go up there, but pedestrians can’t get through to the High Street unless they cut through Gandy Street.

“Traffic on Queen Street is flowing as normal.”
