Firm’s 50 years of delivering a good night’s sleep
FAMILY-RUN Peter Betteridge celebrates 50 years in business this year. The national bed retailer, with stores in Kingsbridge and Honiton as well as an online store delivering nationwide, has built its reputation on years of expertise, excellent customer service, quality range of products, and big-brand names.
The company was founded by Peter Betteridge in 1972, when he and his wife Angela moved to Devon from Hertfordshire. From a humble shop, the business has grown into one of the UK’s most respected premium bedding retailers in the UK, with two major

stores in Devon and a thriving online business delivering expert advice, beds, and bedding nationwide.
Originally a furniture shop selling items for the entire home, Peter identified a gap in the market and soon dedicatied the shop to bedroom products. The multi award-winning business has gone from strength-to-strength over the past 50 years and is now run by Peter’s daughter Emma Casson.
Peter was always keen to pass down the family business and Emma fondly remembers when she started to help in the Kingsbridge shop aged 12, pricing stock and clearing invoices. After studying a business course, she returned to Peter Betteridge aged 21 as manager of the newly opened Honiton store. A former market and ballroom, the stunning store is a staple on Honiton’s High Street.
Founder Peter was known as ‘Mr Kingsbridge’ due to his work with local charities and in the community. He passed unexpectedly in 2018, with his wife Angela continuing to work for the business until she retired a couple of years ago.
Director and mother-of-two Emma (with another on the way), said: “It’s fantastic to be celebrating our 50th year, business is booming, and we have a lot of exciting plans in place to continue growing. My dad lived and breathed the business and I know he would be so proud of everything we have achieved so far.”
