We have our own wealth of fracked gas

-

I UNDERSTAND Mr Sunak is about to broker a deal whereby the UK would buy fracked gas from the USA in order to avoid possible blackouts this winter.

No doubt it’s a good idea in the short term to relieve a potential crisis here, but would lead to an even greater carbon footprint in the long term because it all has to be shipped in, very much like using US and Canadian wood pellets to keep the Drax power station in operation – long term negativity.

He seems quite prepared to use gas fracked elsewhere in the world despite having a wealth of fracked gas under our own doorstep. A typical NIMBY stance.

Our own wealth of fracked gas is lying there to be taken. At least Liz Truss had the courage to take on the “greenies” and NIMBYS but it seems our new PM doesn’t have the bottle to face realistic facts.

The vast majority of the country would be right behind him on this one, and would save us billions for the overall good of the country as a whole. It may be cheaper initially to farm out such a vital commodity, but will only cost us far more in the long term.

A few years ago, many companies and organisations farmed out their call centres to India or the Far East, or wherever Labour was so much cheaper. Now most of these same organisations have returned to having home-based call centres because of the disastrous service provided by this ‘outsourcing’ experience.

Will no politician ever learn from past experiences and mistakes?
