Truro stay top after extending their unbeaten run to 15

- STUART JAMES stuart.james@reachplc.com

TRURO City made it an incredible 15 games unbeaten in the Southern League Premier Division as they won 2-1 at Metropolitan Police to hold on to top spot in the division.

Quickfire goals from Shane White and Ricky Neal just before half-time gave Paul Wotton’s White Tigers the lead and while Thomas Read pulled one back for the home side, they were unable to find an equaliser.

Truro remain one point clear at the top as Weston-super-Mare, in second, won 3-2 at Merthyr Town to keep the pressure on the Cornish side, who last week confirmed they could return home as soon as next season – if plans for a new stadium get the green light.

The White Tigers have announced it aims to build a ground at Langarth on the very site where the Stadium for Cornwall was supposed to be erected - albeit with a much reduced capacity of 3,000 compared with the original plan of 10,000.

It was a good day for Tiverton Town as well as they saw off Hartley Witney 1-0 with Lucas Vowles scoring the only goal of the game.

Tiverton are now seventh in the table and just outside the play-off zone on goal difference from Dorchester Town and Swindon Supermarine.

Plymouth Parkway made it a perfect weekend for our Southern League Premier clubs as they won 3-1 at home to Hayes & Yeading to make it five successive wins.

Master marksman Ben Seymour put them in front with his tenth goal of the season before Jack Crago and Ryan Lane added second half goals.

In Division One South, Tavistock slumped to a surprise 2-1 home defeat to Wimborne Town. Liam Prynn had equalised for the Lambs, but Daniel Bartlett and Harry Baker were on target for Wimborne.

Exmouth were also beaten, losing 1-0 at Frome Town, but there was some joy for struggling Bideford, who won 3-2 at Slimbridge, courtesy of goals from Ben Proctor (og), Lewis Brooks and Craig Duff’s penalty and Willand Rovers thrashed Bristol Manor Farm 4-0, where Oliver Bray scored a hat-trick and Will Richards was also on target.

There was great joy for Brixham and Bovey Tracey, who both progressed to the next stage of the FA Vase with weekend wins.

Brixham were 2-1 winners over Andover New Street with goals from Scott Robinson and Charlie Johansen, while Bovey won an absolute thriller 4-3 against Wessex Premier League side Brockenhurst at Mill Marsh Park.

Mitch Thomas’ goal on the stroke of half-time had made the scores 1-1 before Bovey went 3-1 up with goals from Tom Burt and Ollie Aplin.

Brockenhurst brought it back to 3-3. But in injury time, Aplin scored his second goal of the game to ensure Bovey of a place in today’s third round draw.

Buckland Athletic came from a goal down to thrash Cullompton Rangers 5-1. Ryan Bush (2), Cieran Bridger, Rob Farkins and Owen Stockton scored the goals, while Elburton Villa crashed out after a 4-0 home thumping by Western League leaders Bridgwater United.

Falmouth Town’s run in the competition is over after they lost 2-1 at Laverstock & Ford, while Mousehole also bowed out after a 2-1 home defeat to Hartpury University.

In the Western League, Saltash United took full advantage of Bridgwater being in Vase action as their 2-0 win at Sherborne Town took them to the top of the table. Mike Smith and Harrison Davis were on target for the Ashes.

Barnstaple Town were 1-0 winners over Torpoint Athletic, Tommy Rogers scoring the only goal of the game there, while Helston Athletic moved up to seventh with a 2-0 win over Cadbury Heath thanks to a brace from Tom Payne and Millbrook and Ilfracombe shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Mill Road.
