Short-term homes for the homeless

-

CORNWALL Council is planning to install 18 one-bedroom modular homes in a West Cornwall village to provide short to medium-term accommodation for people sleeping rough on the streets of Penzance and the surrounding area.

If the application is successful, the site – at a former Cormac depot on Newtown Lane, Longrock, near Penzance – will also see the construction of a management and support building and associated domestic infrastructure and landscaping. The homes will replace Bunkabin pop-up cabins for homeless people, which were installed elsewhere in Longrock last year.

A full planning application for the permanent development has been submitted. The proposed development will see the demolition of the existing onsite depot building. The building is at the end of its useful life and contains asbestos, so it needs to be removed irrespective of the outcome of the planning application. Members of the public will be able to comment on the plans when the application has been validated.
