No time to show any respect any more

-

AFTER the Cenotaph service at Gloucester Park on Sunday, the forces’ cadets were to march through the city at 12 o’clock. There were only 10 minutes to wait and quite a few people were waiting in two columns to give the cadets a ‘guard of honour’, so to speak.

A mother and her daughters were standing next to me and discussing what they were going to do. One daughter said straight away that she wanted a top that was in Primark. Mum could have said one of two things... 1) yes, but we will wait 10 minutes and then go and get it; or, 2) let’s go now.

They went straight away. Is it too much to give our respect to both the valiant dead and also the young cadets of the future? Just 10 minutes of our lives.
