We need to reduce, not raise, taxes
I DIDN’T agree with Liz Truss over much but I agreed with her on solar farms and the need to reduce taxes.
With regard to solar farms, it is not appropriate to take large tracts of farmland for solar panels. My views are that these are best situated at point of use with minimum losses from transformation and line loss. It is also more suitable in areas susceptible to damage of the power lines. Recently I have seen programmes on BBC TV showing examples of local energy capture.
One was on a housing estate in Swansea Bay where the house occupiers reduced their energy bills; the other showed an installation on the roof of an engineering factory, reducing the company’s energy bill.
These had both been sponsored by the EU. They exemplified the best way of solar panel usage.
With regard to reducing taxes, I agree with Liz Truss, but at the opposite end of the tax-paying spectrum. If you are to increase the money in the pockets of working people at the lower end, then that money will be spent in the
High Street and in the hospitality industry. This will lessen any recession and boost the economy. It will also encourage people to seek employment.
