PLYMOUTH Argyle’s rising managerial star Steven Schumacher has committed his long-term future to the Home Park club.

Schumacher has signed a two-year extension to his contract with the League One leaders, which will take him through until summer 2027.

Argyle have made the move to secure the services of the 38-year-old after a superb start to his time in the Home Park hot-seat.

Appointed only last December following the departure of Ryan Lowe to Preston North End, Schumacher has led the Pilgrims to 26 wins and 86 points from 44 League One games.

The Pilgrims narrowly missed out on a play-off place last season, and are currently four points clear at the top of the table on the back of a 14-match unbeaten run.

Schumacher has already won the League One manager-of-the-month three times – in March, September and October – and inevitably that has led to speculation about his future.

He was the bookies’ favourite for vacancies at Championship clubs Huddersfield Town and West Bromwich Albion earlier this season.

However, Schumacher made it clear he was settled at Argyle and enjoying his first challenge in management, and now he has been rewarded by the club by extending his contract from 2025 to 2027.

The news was announced yesterday afternoon, after he had met the local media ahead of the away game against Burton Albion tomorrow.

Schumacher spoke to the club’s media department about his new deal. “I’m delighted, it means everything,” he said. “The support that I have received from the board, Andrew (Parkinson) and Simon (Hallett) over the last 12 months that I have been manager has been incredible.

“For me, signing this extension says I believe in the plan. I’m fully committed to it, and I have been since the day we came down here. I work hard every single day to try to achieve that.

“This contract is another step in the plan. The commitment that club has shown me, and that I have shown to them, shows that I believe in the plan.

“I don’t take it for granted. The football club is a huge part of the city. I understand that having been here for a few years now. I know what it means to everybody. The support from the fans has been different class.

“I will continue to work hard for everyone at the club, and the fans, and we can all look forward to some good days in the future.”
