Okehampton make it seven without a win

-

OKEHAMPTON have now gone seven games without a win in South West One following a 41-7 reversal away to Old Centralians.

The Moorlanders have not won since the end of September when they defeated Launceston 38-17 along the A30 at Polson Bridge.

This latest defeat – the eighth in ten starts – leaves Okehampton 12th out of 12 in the table on the same number of game points as Drybrook (11) but on an inferior points difference.

Okehampton were 24-0 down at half time in Gloucester having already lost Kieran Lee and Brad Curtis to injuries.

A make-shift side – one that had former player Lewis Sampson making a guest appearance in the centre to help combat existing injury problems – did well to keep it scoreless for most of an increasingly scrappy second half.

With time running down and steam running out too, Okehampton conceded three late tries.

Richard Bolt scored for Ivybridge from a tap penalty and skipper Dan Fogerty converted.

Injuries have been a blight on the season for Fogerty ever since it started. He remains upbeat once the injury list shortens results will improve.

“It is looking like we’ll be getting a few boys back from injury soon, which will make a massive difference,” said Fogerty,

“But it’s good for boys to get exposed at this level and see what it’s like.”
