Primestock showing returns to Plympton

-

AFTER a three-year break forced by the Covid pandemic, the 48th Plympton Primestock Show returned to New Haye Farm in Ludbrook last month.

This was the first of five shows to take place in South Devon at which points can be accumulated, resulting in cash prizes of £200 and £100 for the winning cattle and sheep exhibitors respectively.

Competitors can accrue points towards their tallies at Plympton, Churston, Newton Abbot, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth, with the final presentation being made at the Dartmouth Fatstock Show on Tuesday, December 13.

At the Plympton show, held on October 31, the halter-led section saw a homebred Limousin steer belonging to Chris Eddy from St Erth (pictured above) claim the champion bullock position, with David Fletcher from Dittisham taking the reserve spot with his Limousin cross heifer (pictured right). In the commercial section, Peter Phillips from Modbury took the championship with a British Blue cross heifer, ahead of Eddie Julian’s homebred Limousin heifer standing in reserve.

A new exhibitor at the show, Louise Winsor-Atkins from Black Torrington, produced the champion sheep, with Gwen Renfree from Quethiock taking reserve.

A spokesperson said: “Plympton Primestock Society would like to thank Gina and Ben Smallridge for so generously hosting the show once again. The show would not be possible without the help of all the generous sponsors, exhibitors, judges and spectators. We thank them for their continued loyalty and support.”
