Truro aim to make it ten wins in a row

PAUL Wotton’s Truro City side will aim to make it the perfect ten tomorrow when they head to Chesham United in the Southern League Premier Division.

The White Tigers have won their last nine league matches and make the huge 562-mile round trip defending a staggering 16-game unbeaten run, which understandably sees them riding high in the league table.

They were knocked off top spot on Tuesday when Weston-super-Mare won 4-0 at Yate Town and their trip to Poole Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, but with Weston expected to win at Beaconsfield this weekend, Truro will look for a win themselves to keep pace at the top.

That will not be easy as Chesham sit third, albeit seven points behind the Cornish side, who have played a game less, but after beating Winchester City 3-0 last time out, Truro will be confident against anyone right now.

“I don’t think that was a particularly pretty game, it was a great result, but it’s another clean sheet for us,” Wotton said. “We lacked bit of energy in the first half, but still had the majority of play and at half-time, I wanted us to step up our intensity.

“Second half, we blew them away. We played the way we want on play, on the front foot, we moved the ball and scored two goals – we were outstanding for 15 minutes and that won us the game, really.”

In Tyler Harvey and Rocky Neal, the White Togers have one of the most potent strikeforces in the division. Harvey already has 18 goals to his name this season, while Neal has 10.

Plymouth Parkway are another team in good form right now, having lost one of their last eight league games, and they will look to continue their climb from the foot of the table against eighth-placed Metropolitan Police at Bolitho Park.

Lee Hobbs’ side are down in 17th place after their midweek match at home to Dorchester Town was postponed and – just like last season – they have up to six games in hand on the teams above them.

Parkway overcame Hayes & Yeading 3-1 in their last league game in front of 602 spectators so, with Argyle not in action this weekend, they will hope for another big gate at Bolitho Park.

Threy also have one of the most prolific strikers in the division with the former Exeter City frontman Ben Seymour on ten league goals for the campaign so far.

“It’s another difficult game, but we are at full strength,” said Hobbs, whose upwardly-mobile side can look forward to an FA Trophy third round trip to National League side Barnet on December 17.

“There may be another loan coming into the building, which we hope we can get over the line this afternoon and I hope we will have a full complement of players to pick from and we can replicate our home form which has been excellent at this moment in time.

Tiverton Town are up to fifth in the table after they drew 2-2 with Merthyr Town at Ladysmead last week, and they will fancy their chances at home to North Leigh this weekend.

North Leigh are bottom of the table with only two wins from 19 games this season and their only win in the last 16 matches came on penalties against Tiverton in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy in early October.
