Gritters out as temperatures plunge

-

GRITTERS were out on roads across Devon last night as temperatures were expected to drop.

Devon Alert – Devon County Council’s highways and planning alerts – urged drivers to take care even on treated roads.

It came as the Met Office weather forecast predicted a minimum temperature of 3C across the South West overnight and into this morning.

In a statement last night, a spokesperson for Devon Alert said: “Our gritters will be out this evening, due to a forecast of low temperatures in most places. Please take care even on treated roads.”

The weather forecast was for mist and fog readily developing overnight last night, with some clearer skies in the west and temperatures down to 3C.

The outlook for tomorrow to Saturday said that it will stay largely dry this week, though it will often remain cloudy.

“There will be clearer skies overnight leading to fog and frost in places, with fog potentially slow to clear. Feeling increasingly cold but light winds,” the Met Office added.

“It is the first time this autumn that gritters have been out in the West.”
