Wind turbines are well placed on land

-

I FIND it difficult to understand why Rishi Sunak continues to pander to the ‘Nimby’ brigade over land-based wind turbines.

Offshore wind turbines are far more expensive to install and maintain, so the cheaper option makes far more economic sense. So why all the fuss?

We have had electricity pylons all over the land for about 100 years now and hardly a complaint, with the exception of some areas such as the Peak District and Snowdonia, where existing electricity cables are being put underground at a tremendous cost.

These pylons are essential for the transfer of electricity all over the country as well as mobile phone masts for 21st-century communications.

They are hardly an eyesore for the majority of the population, as we and our continental neighbours have become so very used to them. So why all the fuss?

As usual, it is the Nimbys who are against land-based wind turbines but are quite happy to use the benefits of electricity and more than happy to opt for the more expensive offshore wind turbines, even if they are in someone else’s backyard.

Mr Sunak, please stop pandering to your Nimby voters and look after the majority of the population who can’t afford their pious attitudes.
