Lorry stuck under rail bridge

-

A LORRY carrying a digger got stuck under a bridge in Cornwall yesterday morning – causing severe delays for motorists travelling to Plymouth.

The incident, at Trerulefoot at around 7.30am, initially brought traffic to a standstill after the digger’s arm became jammed against the stones at the top of the railway bridge.

Long queues stretched back along the A38 for a time.

Workers at the scene directed traffic until officers from Devon and Cornwall Police and Network Rail arrived.

The collision happened on the A38 between Trerulefoot and Tideford. An eyewitness said: “A truck with a digger on the back is stuck under the bridge at Trerulefoot. It’s the road that goes between Trerulefoot roundabout and Tideford.”

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police added: “Police attended and the lorry has since been moved and traffic is flowing freely. Network Rail have attended to assess the bridge and have no concerns at this time.”

The lorry was moved in under an hour after the initial reports.
