Age 56 Job Chartered surveyor Drives BMW 5 Series Touring “I like the X5’s exterior styling, and although I’m not yet convinced by the new grille, it certainly gives it a strong on-road presence.

“The interior is also good; it’s remarkably spacious and very comfortable, with lots of leg room front and rear. And with standard air suspension, the ride should be compliant.

“We’ve no use for a seven-seater any more, because our son and daughter are now at university. However, a large boot remains important to me, especially because my work means I need to carry around all sorts of bulky equipment. I’ll be interested to try the rubber ridges that rise slightly out of the X5’s boot floor to stop luggage from sliding around; they sound like a great idea.

“I also like the large digital instrument display, which you can customise to show the most useful driving information.

“Although I took a few weeks to get used to the idrive system in my 5 Series estate, I now think it’s really easy to use and far safer than other systems, because you can use it without taking your eyes off the road.

“I’m keen to find out what the X5 is like to drive, because it’s the rear-wheel drive handling characteristics that got me hooked on BMWS some years ago. I like that sporting edge and would want that from the X5.”
