WHEN SEAT FIRST announced that its Cupra performance division was going to be turned into a standalone brand, it felt like an idea dreamed up by a marketing agency desperate to justify its employment. However, Cupra’s rst post-independence car (a hepped-up version of Seat’s family-friendly

Ateca) was so good that it won our 2019 Sports SUV of the Year award.and now we have this: the Formentor.

Named after a peninsula in Majorca, it’s been developed speci cally for Cupra, instead of just being a faster, rebadged version of an existing Seat. It combines SUV and coupé styling, making it a rival to the Audi Q3 Sportback, BMW X4 and Mercedes-benz GLC Coupé.
