What Car?

What’s the best highriding car for me?

-

I have a 2018 Peugeot 3008 1.2 Puretech Active Premium, which I’m running on the Motability scheme. I’d like to replace it with a similar car that has decent performance and fuel economy, comfortable seating and easy access. It should also be reasonably high off the ground, with a driver’s door sill height of around 44cm. I do find the Peugeot fairly large, so if there are any suitable models that are slightly smaller, that would be great. Rosemary Harding

WHAT CAR? SAYS…

It’s not easy to find smaller SUVS th at are as high off the ground as larger ones, but the Audi Q2 and Volkswagen T-roc are well worth a look. Both have a relatively big sill-to-ground gap of just over 40cm and are available through Motability with an advance payment from £499. Of the two, the Audi is the plusher car inside and its infotainment system is the easiest to use, while the T-roc, offers an appreciably comfier ride and a slightly bigger boot. Both cars offer decent space in the back for tall adults. Alternatively, if economy is a big priority, perhaps making trips on electric power alone appeal. If so, the Volvo XC40 Recharge is a great choice. It can officially travel up to 27.3 miles without using a drop of petrol. It also has a sill-to-ground height of 44.7cm, and Volvo works with back care specialists in developing its car seats, so you can be certain they will be supportive. The only downside is that it calls for a sizeable advance payment of £2899.
