Mercedesbenz EQE

Smaller, cheaper sibling of the EQS luxury limo is likely to have a 400-mile-plus range

IF THE IDEA of eating food of Michelin star quality for Nando’s prices sounds tempting, keep reading, because the Mercedes-benz EQE luxury saloon will bring you much of the same technology as the larger, more expensive EQS, but for a lot less cash.

From the outside, the EQS in uence is clear in the smooth, aerodynamic design of the E-class-sized EQE. But it’s inside where you’ll see the strongest resemblance – particularly on cars tted with the optional 56in-wide ‘Hyperscreen’ that stretches across the entire dashboard.this actually consists of three screens: a 12.3in driver display, another for the passenger and a 17.7in touchscreen in the centre. Only two smaller screens will be standard, but they’re still a good size: 12.3in for the instrument panel and 13.0in for the infotainment.

Two versions of the EQE will be available from launch: the 288bhp EQE 350 and a higher-powered version with an output that’s yet to be announced. Both feature a single, rear-mounted electric motor.they will be followed by dual-motor, four-wheel-drive and high-performance AMG models.

Range will vary from 339 to 410 miles, depending on which model you go for, but this is currently an estimate rather than the result of of cial tests. If the latter gure is correct, the EQE will go signi cantly farther on a single charge than similar-priced but smaller rivals such as the BMW i4 and Tesla Model 3.These offer of cial ranges of up to 365 miles and 360 miles respectively.

The EQE will also be capable of charging at rates up to 170kw, allowing you to add 155 miles of range in less than 15 minutes via a suitably powerful charging point.

Prices will start from around £60,000, which is midway between the regular E-class and the EQS.
