There is plenty of excuse, after the miserable past year and more we have all endured, for us to get outside with family and friends to celebrate the joys of simply being able to get together once again. And, for many of us, music is a fundamental ingredient that goes towards us enjoying those good times.

Whether it’s out in the garden, in the park or on the beach (as long as we’re being responsible and reasonable to others present), being able to accompany our fellowship with our favourite music is one of life’s true joys.

And, of course, the advent of wireless and streaming technologies over the past quarter of a century or so means bringing our music with us is now easily and relatively cheaply achieved.

Over the next few pages, then, we give you an idea of our favourite wireless speakers to take on the road with you, from less than £50 up to just under £200. You can spend more than this, of course, but for a rugged music maker to take on your travels, we think this is the sweet spot.

It’s not only on price that these speakers differ. Just a glance to the right will reveal that these things come in all manner of shapes and sizes, so it’s important to nail down precisely what you need from your Bluetooth speaker.

Do you need one to float beside you in the pool? Well, the Audiopro probably isn’t for you, then. But if you want something to serenade your summer barbecue in the garden, it would be just the thing. That Addon C3 earns its place on our list next to a couple of offerings from wireless speaker specialist JBL, a firm favourite from (also wireless speaker specialist) Ultimate Ears, and a bargain budget offering from a relatively new name, Tribit.

Those five are joined by a brand that is a global leader in streaming technology, but has only just now produced a product that could reasonably be considered to belong in this company. The Sonos Roam may be late to the party but, with that brand name behind it, it is clearly going to be a speaker with clout.
