If you want a rear lounge ’van but your budget won’t stretch to the new models in this month’s guide then don’t feel like you’ll have to miss out. Rear lounge layouts have been around pretty much as long as leisure vehicles have had engines rather than, literally, horse power, so you should have no trouble finding one that fits the bill, whatever your finances are.

You should be able to find one of the size to suit, too. Over the years we’ve seen everything from compact two-berths to super-sized six-berths, although, oddly, rear lounge campervans are a relative newcomer. Even here, though, there are exceptions, as Bessacarr dabbled in this style of ’van over 20 years ago (see page 60) and Auto-Sleepers had an end lounge VW LT high-top in 1980!
