Malibu Van Charming GT 640 LE RB

Few rivals are as stylish as this German campervan

Pick any continental maker of Fiat-based van conversions and you’re as sure to find a 6.36m-long model with lengthways twin beds in the rear as you are to find motorhome reviews in What Motorhome magazine. Here, though, is a model that stands out from its many competitors with a welcome dose of design pizazz and its new ‘two rooms’ concept.

Even if you don’t order your Malibu in a bold colour, this is a campervan that stands out, with its overcab sunroof and unique porthole-style bedroom windows. Inside, you benefit from a full-height walk-through into the cab and a fantastic array of lighting, including LED strips in the ceiling that follow the line of the roof.

It’s the room divider that’s the big news on this LE RB model, though, as it introduces a concept that many will want to retain when trading down in size from a coachbuilt. Quite simply, the toilet cubicle door opens out across the aisle and, with an additional hinged panel, completely separates the rear as an en suite bedroom or changing area (including two wardrobes). And the washroom already features a couple of neat touches – a cassette loo that slides out of the way to leave more floorspace and a tambour door to cover the basin, so no shower curtain is required.

As well as one of the best showers in this size of camper, the Malibu has two very comfortable single beds (1.81m and 1.95m long) and there’s room to sit up in bed. Little bedtime shelves for your specs are just another great detail in this stylish, top-quality campervan.
