HYMER SEES SALES SOAR
The Erwin Hymer Group has enjoyed a record 12 months of sales but warns of difficulties with meeting demand due to logistics and delays in its supply chain.
The motorhome, campervan and caravan manufacturing giant had a record-breaking turnover during the last 12 months, with sales of its leisure vehicles breaking previous records. With a turnover of €2.7 billion (£2.3 billion), the group, which manufactures brands including Bürstner, Carado, Compass, Dethleffs, Elddis, Etrusco, Hymer, Laika, Niesmann + Bischoff and Sunlight, increased its turnover by a record 23%. Leisure vehicle deliveries also reached a new high of 65,000 examples.
Martin Brandt, CEO of the Erwin Hymer Group (EHG) explains, “As our figures show, we succeeded particularly well during the pandemic. Now it’s a matter of ensuring the trend continues toward decelerated and gentle tourism in the long-term.”
Across Europe, the market for motorhomes and campervans recorded an increase of 20.8% from 2019 to 2020, with a lot of the growth coming from campervans. As EHG’s figures show, it is campers that continue to attract new buyers in greater and greater numbers. Sales of EHG campervans increased by 60% to about 21,000 units in 2020/21. Growth in coachbuilt motorhome sales, in comparison, increased by just 10%.
