Georgie’s next mission

As Our Girl returns, Michelle Keegan’s grieving Army medic heads into danger in Nigeria…

-

Last year, Our Girl fans were left reeling when Special Forces hero Elvis was killed in action – just after he and ex-fiancée Georgie had reunited.

His shock death left Georgie in pieces, and, as the series returns for a new eight-part story, the army medic is only just getting ready to go back to work.

‘She went on compassionate leave for six months so she could grieve,’ explains Michelle Keegan, who plays Georgie. ‘She didn’t want to go on tour for a while. But now work is going to be her focus again, she loves her job and she doesn’t want to sit at home doing nothing.

‘Now she’s concentrating on the army and pretending everything is fine, but deep down she’s heartbroken. I’d have loved Elvis and Georgie to have left the Army together, started a normal life and lived happily ever after, but that wouldn’t be them – they had the relationship with each other, but also with the Army. ’

New challenge

Georgie’s latest mission with 2-Section takes her to Nigeria, where a group of local schoolgirls has been kidnapped.

The brave medic puts herself in danger by going above and beyond what is expected of her. Ben Aldridge returns as Captain James, as does former Coronation Street star Sean Ward playing ‘Fingers’.

‘She’s so brave, whereas

I’m always worried about getting into trouble – I’m living out who I want to be through her!’ laughs Michelle, who played Tina McIntyre in Corrie.

‘She may be naive, but Georgie just wants to make a difference and she always believes that she will be able to help people – she likes to live outside the box and I love that about her.’
