Keith Lemon: Coming In America
Comedian Keith Lemon is trying to achieve his American TV dream…
Keith Lemon heads to Los Angeles to wow American TV bigwigs, with the hope of getting his own US chat show. He meets up with Sharon and Jack Osbourne first for some advice…
Keith Lemon reckons he’s already made it ‘massive’ in the UK so he’s now set his sights on cracking the tough US market too.
‘I’m on a mission to make American TV great again,’ says the comedian, famous for hit British shows such as Celebrity Juice and Through The Keyhole.
‘I like the weather and confusing Americans.’
Social animal
This ITV2 mockumentary series follows Keith’s journey as he sets out to achieve his dream of hosting his own chat show from Hollywood.
‘I wanted to mix in some sketches too,’ says Keith, whose real name is
Leigh Francis.
‘So it would be a different kind of chat show rather than sitting in a studio going: “Look how good I am at socialising with people!”’
But it isn’t a one-man mission for Keith. He’s staying with his friend Ashley Roberts and he’ll hook up with celebrities to hear their advice, including the legendary rock star Gene Simmons in the first episode. Other stars, such as John Barrowman,
Emma Bunton, and Sharon and Jack Osbourne, will appear as the six-part series progresses.
Not bothered
And Eamonn Holmes will pop up in numerous sketch shows to play Donald Trump ‘the most famous gypsy in the US’. ‘Eamonn’s a lovely fella but he always pretends he hates me,’ says Keith.
Keith gets a focus group to watch some of the more stomachchurning clips from Celebrity Juice, which doesn’t go down as well as he’d hoped. He also visits a plastic surgeon and hosts a damp squib of a party.
So does Keith think he’ll ever get his own American show? ‘The spoiler is that I’m sat in Planet Hollywood in London rather than Hollywood itself,’ he says. ‘If something happens it’ll be fun but if it doesn’t I’m not too bothered.’
