Crushed by Cows!
Judy was walking her dog when she was attacked by an angry herd...
24 Hours in A&E
We’ve seen falls, fractures and car crash injuries on 24 Hours in A&E. But this week there’s an unusual case for the emergency team when 72-year-old Judy is rushed to St George’s Hospital having been trampled by a herd of cows while out walking her dog with her friend Donna.
‘I was walking ahead of Judy and remember turning round and seeing her disappear among the cows,’ says Donna. ‘They surrounded her and the noise was just incredible. It sounded so violent and so angry.
‘I just grabbed her ankles and dragged her backwards, with no idea if she was dead or alive.’
After being airlifted to hospital, Judy is given a CT scan for any life-threatening injuries to her neck, spine and chest. Her husband and daughter are notified and Donna rushes to her bedside.
‘We’re so close,’ explains Donna.
‘The thought of losing her is dreadful.’
Luckily, Judy has only sustained a fracture to her right leg and some cuts and bruises, but it was a close call as the trampling could have proved fatal.
‘If Donna hadn’t pulled me out, the cows could have kicked me to death,’ she says. ‘She probably saved my life.’
