Autumnwatch New England

Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan reveal what to expect when Autumnwatch hits the USA…

-

The new Autumnwatch begins this week and the show is swapping its usual home in Gloucestershire to go nature-gazing in the USA. For the first time ever, the week-long series is presented live from

New Hampshire in the American region of New England!

‘We were in Sherborne Park in Gloucestershire for quite some time – we should have bought a house in the village!’ jokes Chris Packham, who presents this year’s series with Michaela Strachan and Gillian Burke. ‘But it’s exciting to move somewhere new – particularly overseas as the wildlife is so different.’ Every Autumn, tourists flock to New England to witness the billions of trees that create an autumnal colour that can be seen from space. Gillian will be based around Squam Lake, delving into the secret life of insects and newts living among the fallen leaves, while Chris and Michaela will be hoping to get up close and personal with bears, moose, bobcats, racoons, skunks and flying squirrels…

‘We’re based at a log cabin and expect to get some really good stuff,’ reveals Chris. ‘The largest thing we bump into in Britain at night is a fox or badger, but they have bear and moose… Both are huge!’

Out and about

Chris and Michaela will also be going on a road trip, which Michaela can’t wait for… ‘I’m looking forward to sitting in a car with Chris, driving around iconic New England sites. I’ll be such a tourist!’ she says.

‘To be able to bring these autumn spectacles to the British public is fab.’
