Former Corrie actress Shobna Gulati and Chris Noth, AKA Mr Big in Sex and the City, are guest stars this week, as the Doctor and her pals return to Sheffield. While they’re catching up with Yasmin’s family, they become aware that something sinister is happening to the spiders in the city...
Anyone who doesn’t like creepy-crawlies should grab a cushion before watching this week because the Doctor and her pals are trapped in a deserted hotel… with a horde of giant spiders!
After arriving back in Sheffield, the gang decides to pop round to Yasmin’s for a cup of tea, only to find her neighbour, Anna, has gone missing and her eerily empty flat is covered in cobwebs.
And similar incidents have been reported all over the city, so when Yasmin gets a distressing call from her mum, Najia, played by former Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati, the Doctor races to the rescue!
Tangled web
‘Najia manages a brand-new hotel outside Sheffield,’ says Shobna, who’s best known as Weatherfield’s Sunita Alahan. ‘It’s only a few days until the big opening, but the place is covered in cobwebs and there are some very strange things going on.’
When they get there they meet the hotel’s owner, brash American businessman Jack Robertson (Sex and the City star Chris Noth), who gives them a frosty reception. Yet when the huge spiders block the exits, he realises the Doctor is his only hope…

As a big
Doctor Who fan, appearing in the iconic sci-fi show was a real treat for Shobna, and having Chris Noth as a co-star made it extra special.
‘I loved Doctor Who as a kid and always dreamed of being his companion,’ she says. ‘But I’m also a Sex and the City fan, so to work with Mr Big was the icing on the cake!’
