When dog lover Paul O’Grady meets an injured Saluki, who was found slumped at the side of the road, for once he’s lost for words. The four-year-old hound has suffered horrific injuries with cuts all over his body.

Gentle and kind

‘There’s always so much I want to say when I see a dog in this condition, but I can’t on camera,’ explains Paul. ‘How can you let a dog get in this state?’ The dog, who the team at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home name Chester, has certainly been neglected, but whether it’s wilful or not, the staff are unsure. Fortunately, a lady comes in, keen to meet Chester. ‘I saw him on the website and he looked gentle and kind,’ she says. Soon, Chester’s settled in his new home. ‘Everyone really likes him,’ explains his new owner. ‘He’s a lovely dog and he brings such a sweetness to my heart.’
