The Doctor and her pals face their most challenging mission yet, as this year’s series goes out with a bang in Sunday’s final episode.
In the finale, their adventure begins when they answer nine separate distress calls that all seem to be coming from the remains of a brutal battlefield on the far-flung planet of Ranskoor Av Kolos.
Yet it soon becomes clear the site holds far more secrets than they could have imagined…
‘They will all be tested in this week’s episode,’ reveals showrunner Chris Chibnall. ‘The inner steel and toughness of the new Doctor is on display a bit more and she’s challenged like never before. Don’t mess with her!’
As the Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yasmin explore the planet, they must answer a host of questions before it’s too late. Who is the mysterious commander with no memory? What lies beyond the mist? Who or what are the Ux?
‘The Doctor’s new friends have been on an emotional journey this year,’ explains Chris. ‘They’ve lost people, they have been thrown across the universe and seen all the thrills, spills, dangers and tough times that being with the Doctor can throw at you. They’ve stuck with her, but now we are going to see how much they’ve learnt!’
Reckoning
As they unearth the secrets of the planet, the group head towards a deadly reckoning, and they won’t be doing so alone. Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey) and Mark Addy (Game of Thrones) also star.
‘Mark’s one of our finest actors,’ says Chris. ‘He plays a character in a difficult situation, with humanity.’
