Alison’s search for answers about her bigamist husband, Alec, leads to some dark revelations in the finale of BBC1’s Mrs Wilson, as she looks to the secret service for clues to explain his behaviour.
Alison (Ruth Wilson), heads to Alec’s London handler, Coleman (Fiona Shaw), who makes a shocking claim. Later she hears a different version of events from Shahbaz Karim (Anupam Kher), his handler in Lahore.
‘She learns more about what happened to him but she’s always having the rug pulled from under her,’ explains Ruth, the granddaughter of Alison whose real-life story is the basis of the drama. ‘Did he do something bad? Did he know something? We’d love him to be a hero, but he was probably also a fantasist.’
As Alison uncovers one final unsettling twist about Alec, can she at last get some peace?
‘It goes somewhere you don’t expect,’ says Ruth. ‘My grandmother was a complicated, fascinating woman.’
