Mary Berry’s Christmas Party

Mary Berry teaches four celebrities to cook a perfect festive feast…

Mary Berry invites newsreader Huw Edwards, sprinter Dina Asher-Smith, Poldark’s Eleanor Tomlinson and comedian Joe Lycett to her Christmas party this year, where she’ll open up her kitchen and teach the four to cook some of her best festive recipes, before hosting a big Christmassy soiree.

For Mary Berry, Christmas is about spending time with family and friends. But it’s also about doing what Mary has done best all her life – helping others to cook.

Mary Berry’s Christmas Party sees the former Bake Off judge open her kitchen to four eager celebrities all hoping to fine-tune their festive cookery skills.

The pressure is on as BBC newsreader Huw Edwards, athlete Dina Asher-Smith, Poldark actress Eleanor Tomlinson and comedian Joe Lycett are invited to help Mary prepare for her own Christmas party.

Great sports

‘I enjoyed cooking with all of them,’ reveals Mary, 83. ‘Huw, Dina, Eleanor and Joe were great sports to take part because they had no idea what we were going to do. But they were all wonderful and keen to do well – it was lovely.’

As Mary teaches them some of her delicious dishes for the Yuletide, the four famous faces set about creating the perfect festive feast.

Dog disaster

So what is the key to preparing the perfect Christmas lunch? ‘It’s all about planning,’ says Mary. ‘Thinking about how everything will run on the day, putting some things in a freezer, doing some of the heavy shopping in advance and maybe ordering ahead. It’s all about getting organised.’

While Mary is arguably TV’s most unflappable cook, when it comes to Christmas lunch even she can recall one disaster…

‘I was cooking turkey crown once and I left it on the side and the dog took it,’ admits Mary. ‘I caught it and put it back on the carving board and didn’t tell a soul. I did tell them later but they love the dog, so it was fine!’
