Which British star will win this year’s Sports Personality trophy?
The best British sports stars are celebrated live from the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham. The shortlist of nominees is revealed on the night, but it’s likely to include England football captain Harry Kane, F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, swimmer Adam Peaty, athlete Dina Asher-Smith and skeleton star Lizzy Yarnold. Clare Balding, Gary Lineker and Gabby Logan host.
This has been an incredibly good year for Britain’s sports stars, and the best are celebrated at this year’s Sports Personality of the Year. It comes live from Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena, hosted by Clare Balding, Gabby Logan and Gary Lineker.
This time round, the shortlist for the public vote won’t be revealed until the night, but it’s a good guess it will include footballer Harry Kane, who captained the England side to the semi-finals of the World Cup this summer, and can anyone beat England manager Gareth Southgate for
Coach of the Year?
To celebrate the team’s fantastic achievement, there will be a special performance of the Three Lions anthem from The Lightning Seeds!
Lewis Hamilton deserves recognition after he was crowned F1 world champion for the fifth time, and swim star Adam Peaty is another big achiever, having broken his own world record in the 100m breaststroke.
Medal winners
Britain’s sprint champion Dina Asher-Smith won three gold medals at this year’s European Championships in Berlin, while skeleton racer Lizzy Yarnold retired very happy after retaining her gold title at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
‘I’m retiring for the right reasons,’ she says. ‘I love the sport.’
