last week, as Bradley Walsh and his 21-year-old son, Barney, started their epic road trip around America, Bradley faced his biggest fear by doing a skydive.
But in this week’s episode, as the pair travel along the famous Route 66, it’s Barney who’s out of his comfort zone while attending cowboy college. ‘I’ve never ridden a horse before so that was interesting,’ says Barney. ‘Dad’s straddling his horse like a proper cowboy, standing proud, and I couldn’t control mine to save my life. It kept galloping off.’
Quality time
Doctor Who star Bradley loved being a cowboy for the day as father and son tried herding cattle and throwing a lasso.
‘It was great being on Route 66 because it’s an iconic road but I absolutely loved my time at cowboy college. I grew up watching all the cowboy films so that was my thing,’ he says.
In this week’s episode, the pair also check out Lake Havasu where they try a spot of waterskiing. ‘There’s no question that Barney was better at that,’ says Bradley. ‘He’s like an extreme sportsman.’
For Bradley, though, spending time with his son more than made up for the nerve-jangling adventures.
‘They didn’t tell me what
I’d be doing each day or
I might not have got out of the motorhome!’ admits The Chase host. ‘But it’s been one of the highlights of my life. I would highly recommend this [trip] to any father and son.’
