Samantha Womack joins the cast of Silent Witness this week as a police detective who collaborates with the team.
The former EastEnders actress plays DI Kate Ashton, who helps investigate the death of a teenager in a meth-lab explosion and finds herself attracted to forensic scientist Jack Hodgson (David Caves).
‘There’s a little bit of a Jack thing going on there but it doesn’t go quite the way you might expect it to go,’ explains David. ‘That was fun to play and Samantha was just brilliant in the role.’
Samantha left Albert Square in dramatic fashion in January
2017 when her character, Ronnie Mitchell, drowned in a swimming pool on her wedding night while trying to save her sister, Roxy.
Bond star Colin Salmon also appears in this week’s two-part investigation, playing the dead teen’s head teacher, Mr Taylor, who puts himself in danger by confronting the drug dealers who have been plaguing the community.
Top talent
With Downton’s Samantha Bond also appearing later in the series, Silent Witness continues to attract talent.
‘We have been so lucky,’ admits Emilia Fox, who is the longestserving cast member in the current line-up in her role as pathologist Nikki Alexander. ‘These are really meaty roles, so we’ve been able to attract some big guest stars.’
